This tree gives me a lot of pleasure. It’s hard This tree gives me a lot of pleasure. It’s hard to believe. But this gardenia is about 18 years old. I grew it from a cutting during my apprenticeship in Japan. Gardenias thicken very slowly and even more slowly in our climate. I could probably have developed a shohin faster with the tree, but I deliberately grew it larger in order to get a more beautiful picture with its relatively large double flowers in terms of proportions. Here is a Satsuki azalea var. Kakuo that I importe Here is a Satsuki azalea var. Kakuo that I imported from Japan in 2019. I deliberately planted it in a large wooden box about 4 years ago to reshape it to try and create a more deciduous tree like shape. This is now the first pot after the remodeling. I usually prefer to repot at an earlier stage so that the tree can recover even better. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to do it earlier, so I did it now. As the tree is very vigorous, this is normally not a problem with the right aftercare in a greenhouse. The first picture is after repotting today. The second picture before repotting in spring 2020. The plant on the left has been grown continuously in a pot, the plant on the right in a raised growing bed for the last three years. To build up a good structure/ fine branching in Kotohime, you have to select early, i.e. remove buds that grow in a compact space. And leave the right ones. So today, although I wanted to repot, I spent almost half a day on this tree just to select. The first picture is before selection, the last after selection.
